What our evidence ratings mean

What they did

Nine adults with obsessive-compulsive disorder received up to four single doses of psilocybin ranging from sub-perceptual to clearly psychoactive levels, spread over several weeks.

What they found

All nine showed marked reductions in OCD symptom scores during test sessions, with decreases ranging from 23 to 100 percent. No serious adverse events were reported.

Worth knowing

Nine people, no placebo arm, and the very low dose reduced symptoms too, which undercuts any dose-response reading. Everything else published on psilocybin and OCD is case reports going back to the 1960s.
