What our evidence ratings mean

What they did

Adults with cluster headache were randomised to three doses of psilocybin about five days apart or to placebo, then kept headache diaries for eight weeks.

What they found

Cluster attack frequency changed by minus 3.2 attacks per week with psilocybin against roughly zero on placebo. The difference did not reach statistical significance, though the chronic cluster headache subgroup showed a larger effect.

Worth knowing

This trial did not succeed. It is included because it is the only randomised placebo-controlled evidence in cluster headache, and because the raw numbers get quoted without the p value attached.
