Forty-four thousand people, and a link to fewer opioid problems
What they did
Researchers analysed National Survey on Drug Use and Health responses from roughly forty-four thousand people with a history of illicit opioid use, checking whether lifetime classic psychedelic use tracked with opioid problems.
What they found
Psychedelic use was linked to 27 percent lower odds of past-year opioid dependence and 40 percent lower odds of past-year opioid abuse.
Worth knowing
Survey epidemiology, so this is an association and nothing more. People who use psychedelics differ from people who do not in many ways that a survey cannot adjust away.
