The clocks fall back on Sunday, November 1, and by that week the sun is down before most people finish work. The best time to get ready for winter is right now, while October is still golden and you have the energy to set things up.
Getting ready comes down to three moves. Get outside in the morning light, lock in a weekly rhythm you never have to think about, and put a few plans on the calendar before the dark gets comfortable. Do all three this week and December becomes a season you chose, not one that happened to you.

Clocks fall back on Sunday, November 1, 2026. Start the winter routine this week, not in December.
15 to 20 minutes outside within a couple of hours of waking is the easiest winter habit there is.
Clarity on dose mornings, Support on the days in between. A jar of Clarity covers about three months on one day on, two days off.
The largest microdosing survey yet found one day on, two off was the most common schedule among regular microdosers.
Nature never waits for December
Out in the woods, winter prep started weeks ago. Grey squirrels bury their nuts one at a time in hundreds of separate hiding spots each fall, and researchers at UC Berkeley found they find them again by remembering the exact spot, using trees and buildings as landmarks.
Black bears are eating like it’s their job, because it is. Colorado Parks and Wildlife says a bear in the fall feeding phase can take in around 20,000 calories a day and spend up to 20 hours a day looking for food.
And the trees are dropping their leaves on purpose. Once the ground freezes, roots can’t pull up much water, and leaves would keep losing it. As Miami University’s science explainer puts it, shedding them saves water and energy through the cold, so the tree can come back strong in spring.
Nobody out there waits for the first snow. They do the boring setup while the weather is still kind. That’s the whole idea.
What changes when the clocks fall back
On Sunday, November 1 at 2 a.m., most of Canada and the US set the clocks back an hour. You get a free hour that morning, and then the sunsets arrive an hour earlier on the clock for the rest of the season.
The Sleep Foundation’s advice for clock changes is refreshingly simple. Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, weekends included, and get morning light. So spend that bonus hour on Sunday outside with a coffee instead of sleeping in until nine.
The daylight walk, a 20 minute winter habit
Make a standing date with daylight. Within a couple of hours of waking, head outside for a 15 to 20 minute walk. No podcast required.
Light outside is in a different league from light inside. The Sleep Foundation puts direct daylight at up to 10,000 lux and notes that even bright office lighting rarely gets past about 500. A grey November sky knocks the outdoor number down, but it still tends to beat a kitchen ceiling light by a long way, and your body clock takes most of its cues from that light.

Bundle up, bring a warm mug, and count it as the first win of the day. Bonus points on a dose morning.
Build a weekly rhythm you set once
The squirrels have it right. Setup beats willpower. Pick a rhythm in October and by the first snowfall it’s just part of your week.
Dose mornings, Clarity Capsules
Clarity Capsules are our most popular microdose. Each capsule holds 125mg of dried psilocybe alongside 225mg of Lion’s Mane, 50mg each of Reishi and Chaga, and 50mg of ginger root. Take one capsule every second or third morning, with food. The feel is subtle yet noticeable, and never trippy. For your first one, pick a day with your usual routine so you can notice the shift.

The days in between, Support Capsules
Support Capsules are five functional mushrooms and adaptogens with zero psilocybin. Lion’s Mane, Reishi, Turkey Tail, Cordyceps and Guduchi, 100mg each. Take one or two a day in the morning with food, especially on the days you don’t dose. It keeps the rhythm going all week long.

How long one jar lasts
A jar of Clarity holds 30 capsules. On one day on and two days off, that’s about three months, which carries you from the clock change straight through the holidays to the end of January. Dose every second morning instead and the same jar runs about two months.
Want something for every single day? Lion’s Mane Capsules are 500mg of organic Lion’s Mane per capsule with no psilocybin, taken one or two a day, morning or evening.
What 5,399 microdosers told researchers
This month the biggest look yet at how people actually microdose landed in the International Journal of Drug Policy. Researchers from McMaster University, the University of Toronto, the University of Michigan and UCLA analysed the Global Psychedelic Survey 2025, which ran in 19 languages. 5,399 of the people who answered had microdosed at some point (Petranker et al., 2026).

Psilocybin was the most microdosed substance by a long way, used by 81.1% of them. Among regular microdosers, the most reported schedule was the Fadiman protocol at 24.3%. That’s one day on and two days off, the same rhythm on the Clarity label.
The part we liked best was how people spend those days. 58.9% said they spend time in nature while microdosing, 56.8% turn their focus inward, and 43% use it for leisure.
To be straight about it, this is a survey. It describes how people microdose and what they report, not what microdosing does. Still, it’s a fascinating snapshot of a global community, and it lines up neatly with a daylight walk on a dose morning.
Four more ways to get ahead of winter
Keep your wake time steady
Same alarm all week, weekends included. The Sleep Foundation puts a regular schedule at the top of its list for getting through a clock change, and it’s free.
Move your desk toward the window
If you work from home, sit where the daylight is. The same Sleep Foundation guidance notes that natural light helps your body clock reorient after the clocks change.
Book the dark evenings now
Put a standing dinner, a weekly game night or a Saturday hike in the calendar before November does it for you. Plans made in October actually happen.
Do the boring jobs while it’s mild
Winter tires, the furnace filter, the one drawer you keep avoiding. Squirrel logic. Get it done while it’s still pleasant outside.
Winter prep FAQ
When do the clocks fall back in 2026?
Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 2 a.m. local time, in most of Canada and the US. A few places, including most of Saskatchewan, don’t change their clocks at all.
How long does a jar of Clarity Capsules last?
A jar holds 30 capsules. At one capsule every third morning it lasts about three months. At one every second morning it lasts about two months.
Can I take Support Capsules on dose days too?
Yes. Support has no psilocybin and is made for daily use, one or two capsules a day. Most people lean on it on the days between Clarity doses.
What is the most common microdosing schedule?
In the Global Psychedelic Survey, the most reported schedule among regular microdosers was the Fadiman protocol, one day on and two days off. Clarity’s directions follow the same rhythm.
Will I feel a microdose?
Yes, a little. A Clarity microdose is subtle yet noticeable, and it never feels like a trip. If you’re new, start on a quiet day with your usual routine.
Set it up this week
Winter is easier when the setup is already done. Get the morning walk on the calendar, pick your dose days, and have Clarity and Support on the counter before Sunday. By the first snowfall it’ll feel like it was always part of your week.
