Psilocybin edged past placebo in treatment-resistant depression
What they did
Compass Pathways ran a phase 3 trial of a single 25mg dose of its synthetic psilocybin across thirty-two US sites in people with treatment-resistant depression, measuring depression scores at six weeks.
What they found
The company reported the trial met its primary endpoint, with a 3.6 point advantage over placebo on the MADRS depression scale at week six.
Worth knowing
This is a corporate press release dated June 2025, not a published paper. It has not been peer reviewed and the full data have not been released. A 3.6 point MADRS difference is statistically clear and clinically modest. Treat it as news, not as evidence.
