What our evidence ratings mean

What they did

Researchers followed twenty-four adults from the earlier Johns Hopkins depression trial for a full year after their second psilocybin dose.

What they found

Improvements held. Seventy-five percent still showed at least a 50 percent reduction in symptoms at twelve months and 58 percent were in remission, with no serious side effects linked to psilocybin during follow-up.

Worth knowing

This follows people from an uncontrolled waiting-list study, so there is no comparison group to say what would have happened anyway. Twenty-four people is small for a durability claim.

Every trial in this section used a single large dose, given in a clinic, with trained people in the room for the whole session. That is a different activity from anything sold on this site. More on why that distinction matters.
