What they did

The NYU team re-assessed the surviving participants from its cancer trial at an average of 3.2 and then 4.5 years after a single psilocybin session.

What they found

Reductions in anxiety, depression, hopelessness, demoralization and death anxiety held with large effect sizes. Between 71 and 100 percent attributed positive life changes to the experience.

Worth knowing

Fifteen people who survived a life-threatening cancer diagnosis and agreed to be re-contacted. Survivorship shapes who is left to ask, and self-attributed life change is not an objective measure.
