What Does Microdosing Actually Cost?

Somewhere between your Tuesday latte and your Friday bar tab sits a question we get every single week. What does microdosing actually cost? The short answer is less than you think. The long answer depends on your dose, your format, and how much of the price tag went into testing instead of vibes. Real numbers below, no funny math.

The short version

  • A microdose runs $2.67 to $4.30 per dose from our current catalog, which is $8 to $13 a week on the classic three days a week protocol.
  • That lands under the average Canadian coffee habit of $35.21 a month (Time2Play survey of 1,000 Canadians, 2022).
  • Legal clinical psilocybin runs $2,500 to $6,500 through programs like TheraPsil. The gap is therapist hours, not the mushroom.

How much does microdosing cost in Canada?

A psilocybin microdose costs $2.67 to $4.30 per dose in Canada in 2026, based on our current Microgenix catalog. On the standard three days a week protocol, that works out to $8 to $13 a week, or roughly $35 to $56 a month. A 30 capsule jar costs $80 to $94 and lasts about ten weeks.

Here’s the whole menu, with the per dose math done for you.

Our numbers. Across 23,000 plus shipped orders, the pattern is consistent. People sample small, then settle into the jar, because the per dose price drops by about 40 percent between a sample pack and a refill. The 125mg Clarity jar is the most reordered microdose in our catalog.

What are you actually paying for?

Mostly, you’re paying to know what’s in the capsule. Every batch of raw product we use is third party tested for psilocybin content and contaminants, and the milligram on the label is the milligram in the capsule. That’s the expensive, boring part of the price tag, and it’s the part cheap capsules usually skip.

The wider market makes the point for us. A 2026 study in the Canadian Journal of Public Health found that 100 percent of online psilocybin retailers in Canada sell microdosing capsules, and 69 percent package products to look like commercial snack brands (Matsukubo et al., CJPH, 2026). Plenty of sellers, wildly uneven standards. When two capsules cost the same, the difference is usually what happened before they were filled.

Dose accuracy matters more in microdosing than almost anywhere else, because the whole idea is a dose that stays subtle yet noticeable. A capsule that’s 40 percent hot isn’t a bonus. It’s a Tuesday you didn’t plan. Our lab reports page explains what batch testing measures and how to request the report for your batch.

How does it compare with everything else you buy to feel better?

Canadians spend real money on feeling human. The average legal age Canadian bought 8.0 standard drinks a week in 2024/25 (Statistics Canada, 2026), and the average household put $441 into alcohol at bars and restaurants in 2023 (Statistics Canada, 2025). Against that backdrop, here’s where a microdosing protocol sits.

Cost context only. These do different jobs, and none of them replaces another.

One thing we want to say plainly. Therapy and prescribed medication treat things microdosing is not a treatment for. The comparison above is about where the money goes in a normal Canadian month, not a suggestion to swap one for another. Keep your therapist. Keep your prescriptions. Talk to your doctor, especially about SSRIs and lithium.

Why does the legal route cost so much more?

Legal psilocybin assisted therapy in Canada costs $2,500 to $6,500 for a full arc of 18 to 25 hours of care, with therapist time billed at $150 to $200 an hour (TheraPsil, 2026). In Oregon’s licensed system, a single session ranges from US$500 at the microdose level to US$3,500 at high doses (Vice, 2023). The mushroom is the cheap part. The clinic is not.

Meanwhile, demand keeps climbing. An estimated 5.9 percent of Canadians used a psychedelic in 2023, rising to 13.9 percent among people aged 20 to 24 (Myran et al., CMAJ, 2025). By mid 2025 there were 75 storefront psilocybin dispensaries across Canada, up 32 percent in 14 months, and nearly every one of them sells microdose capsules (JAMA Network Open, 2025). The market moved faster than the law, which is why the affordable version of this lives in a grey zone. Our FAQ covers the legal picture honestly, province by province and state by state.

Does spending more get you more?

Past a certain point, no. The honest answer is that the research on microdosing is still mixed, and the best placebo controlled work suggests expectation does some of the lifting. We keep a library of 63 human studies, including the null results, because we’d rather you read them than take our word for it.

What money reliably buys is not a stronger promise. It buys consistency. A tested batch, a weighed dose, and the same capsule on Thursday that you took on Monday. That’s the entire pitch. Anyone charging luxury prices for mystery powder is selling packaging.

Questions people actually ask

How much does microdosing cost per month?

On jar economics, $35 to $56 a month. A 30 capsule jar runs $80 to $94 and covers about ten weeks at three doses a week, which is $8 to $13 weekly. Small packs cost more per dose, so the monthly number depends mostly on the format you pick.

How long does a jar actually last?

About ten weeks. Thirty capsules at the classic three days a week rhythm is ten weeks of protocol, and psilocybin builds tolerance fast enough that dosing daily works against you. The off days aren’t a compromise. They’re the design.

Is it cheaper to buy bigger packs?

Considerably. A sample works out to $3.75 to $5.00 per dose while the eco refill lands at $2.90, roughly 40 percent less. Samples exist to find your dose, and jars exist to run the protocol once you know it.

Why is clinical psilocybin so much more expensive?

Because you’re paying for supervised care, not product. TheraPsil estimates $2,500 to $6,500 for a legal therapeutic arc in Canada, most of it therapist hours at $150 to $200 each. It’s a different service solving a different problem, and for some people it’s exactly the right one.
