What they did

Researchers used a mobile app to compare 4,050 people who microdose with 4,653 people who do not, across mood, anxiety and stress measures. Psilocybin accounted for 85 percent of the substances used.

What they found

Microdosers reported lower depression, anxiety and stress than non-microdosers across genders. The gap was widest among people who reported existing mental health concerns.

Worth knowing

Observational and self-selected. People who choose to microdose and then report on it are not a random sample, so this shows an association and cannot show cause. Read it alongside the controlled trials above.
