What they did

Thirty-four people beginning to microdose took either half a gram of dried mushrooms or a matched placebo under double-blind conditions, while researchers measured subjective effects, creativity, cognition, perception and brain activity by EEG.

What they found

Stronger subjective effects on the active dose appeared only among participants who correctly guessed which condition they were in. There was no improvement in creativity or cognition, and a few measures shifted slightly toward impairment.

Worth knowing

A small sample, and one that measured acute effects rather than the cumulative benefit most microdosing protocols claim. It does not rule out longer-term effects, it just finds none in the short term.
